Namibia’s senior women’s cricket team, the Capricorn Eagles, suffered a comprehensive nine-wicket defeat to the UAE yesterday, in the final match of their UAE tour.

Despite the defeat, Namibia won the series 4-2 after a great comeback from an opening match defeat that saw them going on a four-match unbeaten streak.

In yesterday’s final match, Yasmeen Khan once again starred for Namibia with 48 runs, but she received little support as they were reduced to 97 for eight wickets off their 20 overs. UAE comfortably reached the target for the loss of only one wicket with Kavisha Egodage scoring 52 not out.

Namibia’s innings got off to a stuttering start as Arrasta Diergaardt was dismissed for 3, and when Wilka Mwatile (6) and Merczerly Gorases (0) were dismissed in quick succession they had crashed to 19/3.

UAE’s bowlers maintained the pressure with Irene van Zyl and Sylvia Shihepo both dismissed for 7, and by the halfway mark Namibia were struggling at 45 for five wickets.

Khan, however, led their revival with a great knock, but she received little support, while the wickets continued to fall at the other end.

Khan was eventually run out for 48 which came off 46 balls (3×4, 1×6), while Naomi Benjamin added 10 not out as Namibia reached 97/8 off their 20 overs.

Samaira Dharidharka was the UAE’s best bowler, taking three wickets for 21 runs, while Khushi Sharma took 2/13 and Vaishnave Mahesh 2/15.

The UAE’s opening batters Kavisha Egodage and Esha Oza put them on track for victory with a half-century opening stand, before Oza was dismissed off Naomi Benjamin’s bowling for 19.

Khushi Sharma joined Egodage as they comfortably reached 99/1 with eight balls to spare.

Edogage led the charge with 52 not out off 54 balls (3×4, 2×6), while

Sharma was not out on 23 off 27 balls.

The match concluded a successful tour for Namibia, who showed great character to come back and win the series after losing their opening match.

Khan was their star player, and the top batter of the series, scoring 194 runs at an average of 38,80, while she also had the best strike rate of 112,13.

Egodage trailed in second place with 117 runs at an average of 23,40, while Namibia’s Wilka Mwatile came third with 100 runs at an average of 25,00.

UAE’s Samaira Dharnidharka topped the bowling statistics with eight wickets at an average of 8,25, followed by Namibia’s Victoria Hamunyela with eight wickets at an average of 9,25.
