Namibia will be among five African countries to host Mercedes-Benz’s global ‘140 Years. 140 Places’ anniversary journey currently underway until Thursday.
The journey commemorates 140 years since Carl Benz invented the automobile and will see three Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicles travel more than 50 000 kilometres across six continents, visiting 140 locations.
In a joint statement yesterday, the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB), Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board (NIPDB) and M&Z Motors Namibia announced a collaboration to position the country on the global platform.
The vehicles will travel through the Zambezi region, northern and central Namibia, Windhoek and the south, including the Fish River Canyon, before the main anniversary event in Windhoek.
NTB says the journey will provide an opportunity to showcase Namibia’s tourism attractions, culture, hospitality and conservation achievements to international audiences.
“The initiative will also promote Namibia as an investment destination, highlighting opportunities in tourism, infrastructure, mobility and broader economic development,” the statement reads.
NIPDB spokesperson Catherine Shipushu says Namibia’s inclusion in the campaign was a significant milestone that would place the country’s landscapes and economic potential before a global audience.
She says the campaign would strengthen Namibia’s national brand and position the country as an investment destination.
In its statement, M&Z Motors Namibia says the journey also honours its 120-year history in Namibia and 90 years of Mercedes-Benz in the country.
The partners will coordinate the route, tourism experiences, filming and logistics to maximise Namibia’s international exposure.
