Namibia go top in Abuja

Namibia are the only remaining unbeaten team at the Davis Cup Africa Group III tournament in Abuja, Nigeria after they beat Benin 3-0 on Thursday. 

It was their third successive victory at the tournament after they previously beat Ghana 2-1 and Nigeria 3-0 and put them at the top of the log, ahead of Zimbabwe, Benin and Nigeria,who have all won two matches, while Ghana and the Ivory Coast have both lost three matches.

Against Benin on Thursday, Codie van Schalkwyk won his first set 7-6 before his opponent Alexis Klegou retired, while Connor van Schalkwyk beat Sylvestre Monnou 6-2, 6-3. 

Connor van Schalkwyk and Jean Erasmus then beat Prince Gandonou and Sodick Noudogbessi 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to seal a 3-0 victory in the tie. 

Namibia’s next match is against Zimbabwe on Friday.
