Namdia diamond heist: Robbers get away with diamonds of yet-to-be determined value

The Namibian Police has confirmed that robbers got away with a number of diamonds of which the value is yet to be determined at Namib Desert Diamonds (Namdia) in Windhoek on Saturday.

National police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says four suspects held staff members hostage.

One has been arrested and one took his life, she says.

“They allegedly held the victims hostage by pointing firearms at them. The suspects managed to tie up the staff and steal an undisclosed number of diamonds,” Shikwambi says.

The police say more than two suspects are involved.

Shikwambi says a protection officer was found dead in a storeroom with his hands and legs tied up, his face covered with a shopping bag, and a gunshot wound to his head.

“He has been identified as Francios Eiseb (57). His next of kin have been informed,” she says.

Four firearms and knives were collected from the scene.

Two of the weapons belong to the suspects and two to the victim, Shikwambi says.

The police are requesting anyone with information to contact chief inspector Olivier on 081 421 0903, or chief inspector Simeon Nghilalulwa at 081 256 0988.
