The Nama Traditional Association (NTLA) has rejected the joint declaration for the 1904 to 1908 genocide.
The association, along with the Ovaherero Traditional Authority, continues to oppose the way the German and Namibian governments are handling negotiations.
The two countries have ended negotiations and Namibia’s Cabinet allegedly directed that the controversial joint declaration between Namibia and Germany on reparations for the Nama and Ovaherero genocide be signed before March.
“We, therefore, reject the renegotiated joint declaration the same way we rejected the first.
“We call on all Nama communities, nationwide and in the diaspora, to rally behind its recognised leadership, to pursue its struggle to finality,” the association says.
NTLA says the Nama and Ovaherero traditional leaders have been sidelined.
They want continued resistanc and “legal action against Germany instead of mediated discussions through the Namibian government,” the press statement reads.
“The Nama and Ovaherero leadership continue to voice their concerns through public statements, international advocacy, and the court of law, seeking more inclusive and just solutions for the problem,” the association says.
