Otjiwarongo motorists are set to benefit from a N$81.22 million road rehabilitation programme aimed at improving road safety, traffic flow and connectivity at the town.
The first phase of the programme, the rehabilitation of the C38 road, was officially handed over to contractor China Henan International Cooperation (Chico) during a ceremony held at Otjiwarongo on Monday.
The C38 links Otjiwarongo with Kalfeld, continuing towards Outjo, making it a key road for motorists, businesses and surrounding communities.
The project is a partnership between the Otjiwarongo municipality, Roads Authority (RA) and Road Fund Administration (RFA).
Municipality chief executive Mberipura Hifitikeko says the municipality will facilitate procurement, while the RFA will provide ring-fenced funding and the RA technical oversight.
“The C38 rehabilitation forms part of a wider road infrastructure programme extending into the 2027/28 financial year,” he says.
Element Consulting Engineers’ Paulus Shalongo says the rehabilitation is expected to improve road safety and traffic flow along the route.
Chico will use stabilised material technology, which is expected to make the construction process more time-efficient.
The wider programme is divided into three lots: resurfacing of the B1 and C38 routes, rehabilitation of the C38 single
carriageway, and rehabilitation of the B1 and C38 dual carriageway.
