Mushimba buried

THE late Aaron Mushimba was laid to rest at the Pionierspark cemetery in Windhoek on Friday.

The funeral service was, amongst others, attended by President Hifikepunye Pohamba, former President Sam Nujoma, Prime Minister Hage Geingob, family members, cabinet ministers, members of opposition parties, diplomats and friends.

Mushimba passed away in a Cape Town hospital on 31 August 2014, at the age of 67.

“It is with heavy hearts and sorrow that we bid Mushimba our final farewell this morning. We have come to this site to lay to rest a comrade, outstanding son of Namibia, a husband, a father, a grandfather, businessman and a friend to many people,” President Pohamba said during the funeral service.

He indicated that Mushimba’s passing has robbed Namibia of a freedom fighter and patriot, who made outstanding contributions to the country’s struggle for independence and socio-economic development.

Pohamba then wished the widow, children and the bereaved family strength, courage and faith as they move on with their lives without him. He further stated that Mushimba’s legacy of hard work and service to the nation will live on, adding that he will be remembered for his entrepreneurial skills and business acumen.

“His steadfast dedication to the struggle against colonialism and apartheid oppression will not be forgotten,” said the Head of State.

Mushimba was the younger brother of former First Lady Kovambo Nujoma.

He leaves behind his wife, four children, three grandchildren and two siblings. – Nampa
