Muinjo loses out on CAF seat

NAMIBIAN Football Association (NFA) president John Muinjo lost out on a Caf executive committee seat for the Southern Zone in an election held in Khartoum, Sudan, on Wednesday.

Muinjo managed only five votes to finish third out of four candidates after South Africa’s Danny Jordaan and Justino Fernandes from Angola withdrew.Zambia’s Kalusha Bwalya was the winner and will be on the executive committee representing the Southern Region after he got 38 votes. Walter Nyamilandu (Malawi) was second with six votes and Adam Mthethwa (Swaziland) was last with three votes.Bwalya had earlier withdrawn from running for the Fifa executive committee seat to concentrate on the Southern Zone election.Algerian Football Federation president Mohamed Raouraoua was elected on the Fifa executive committee, replacing disgraced Nigerian official Amos Adamu, who was suspended by Fifa for seeking bribes during the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding contests.Raouraoua, 64, took one of two places allocated to Africa, with Ivorian Federation chief Jacques Anouma retaining his spot.South Africa World Cup organiser Danny Jordaan missed out after he gained only 10 votes in fourth place.Raouraoua, who has had two separate terms at the head of Algerian football, won with 39 votes, while Anouma was re-elected for a second four-year term with 35 after the voting in Sudan.Suketu Patel of the Seychelles mustered 12 votes to beat Jordaan while Adamu’s replacement, compatriot Ibrahim Galadima, finished last with just five.All 53 member countries of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) had two votes.Ghanaian FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi was also victorious on Wednesday, as he picked up 34 votes to defeat Beninois rival Anjorin Moucharafou in the Zone West B region.And former Tanzania captain Leodegar Tenga earned his place after beating Rwandan rival Celestin Musabyimana to take the Central-East Zone’s spot.Elsewhere, Tunisia’s Tarek Bouchamaoui (Northern Zone), Omari Constant of DR Congo (Central Zone) and Guinean Almamy Kabele Camara (Zone West A) were all elected unopposed. – namibiasport.com.na
