‘Movie-style’ car chase in Katutura

ONE suspect is still on the run and close to N$150 000 missing after two men allegedly robbed Pep Stores employees in Katutura on Monday.

At about 13h00 on Monday, two men allegedly overpowered employees of the shop who were on their way to a bank in the same shopping complex, Deputy Commissioner Silvanus Nghishidimbwa said yesterday.He said the suspects grabbed the bags containing N$146 000 and ran to a getaway car parked nearby. A Police officer who was in the same parking lot saw the incident and tried to block the car.Nghishidimbwa said the driver drove over a pavement and sped away.The Police car chased it up to the Golgotha cemetery area, where the getaway car stopped and its three occupants got out and fled on foot. Nghishidimbwa said the Police officer did the same and ran after one of the suspects – the driver of the getaway car. ‘It was like a movie the way they were chasing each other.’The Police officer caught up with the suspect and arrested him, Nghishidimbwa said.Early yesterday morning, a second suspect was arrested in Katutura, he added.By yesterday afternoon, the third suspect was still at large and the money had not been recovered.
