Over the last three years, South Africa’s job market has seen a rise in demand for departmental and middle managers, alongside the continued need for software developers and other key professionals across various sectors.
According to PNET’s latest Job Market Trends report, managerial positions are in high demand, with roles such as finance managers, sales managers, and operations managers taking centre stage.
“Managerial job roles like finance managers, sales managers, operations managers, as well as business development and human resources (HR) managers, are highly sought after,” the report noted.
The report further highlighted that software developers have remained in high demand for the past few years, despite a slight decline in job advertisements for these roles.
“Interestingly, job advertising for information technology professionals – particularly software developers – has decreased significantly (-45%) over the last 3 years.”
However, the report added that although there has been a decrease in job advertising for software developers, the trend in candidate sourcing is not as significant.
“Software developers remain second on the top in demand professionals when it comes to candidate sourcing.”
The report also highlighted other professional groups that companies and recruiters actively source and engage with.
“Other professional groups which companies and recruiters source and engage with are sales representatives, financial/project accountants, admin clerks, systems/network administrators, senior managers, executive managers/directors, bookkeepers, and team leaders/supervisors, and HR professionals.”
