Beauty queen Minsozi Kompeli has been modelling since the age of five and through the years has gained invaluable experience which she aims to share with those around her. She chats to The Weekender about her passion and future plans.
I was born on 28 March 1992 at Katima Mulilo.
In 2002 I moved to Windhoek with my family and this is where it all happened.
I have won various contests such as Miss Khomas High 2007, Miss High School 2010, Miss Polytechnic of Namibia 2011, I was a Miss Namibia finalist in 2014, Miss Republic of Namibia second runner-up 2018 and Miss Glam World Namibia 2019.
I also hold two degrees from the Namibia University of Science and Technology.
I liked modelling because I had a slim body and a beautiful smile. It has boosted my confidence as a woman. When I was a teenager my parents divorced and although I was heartbroken, I used beauty pageants to distract myself from depression.
Modelling is my passion. I believe beauty pageants have a positive impact on people, it encourages growth, confidence, an outgoing personality and a positive self-image.
I started giving advice to others when I won my first pageant in 2007. I decided to do this because many young girls looked up to me. I have plans of opening a modelling agency to coach and develop upcoming models from all corners of Namibia.
Many young ladies want to be models but they struggle because there’s no one to direct them or connect them to the right pageants or people. I love sharing knowledge because I also started somewhere, we all learn from each other and should build each other as a community and as women.
Please don’t give up because of the (Covid-19) pandemic. Go for photo shoots and build up your portfolio.
It all started during the first stage of the lockdown. I was looking at ways to be productive at home. So I decided to download TikTok to entertain myself, little did I know that I was actually entertaining others. I do comedy videos to make myself happy and it keeps me from stressing about real life situations.
