Men’s Wardrobe Essentials

Men’s Wardrobe Essentials

Men’s fashion has always been simple. We wear whatever fits and won’t repel people with its smell. However, times are changing.

We men don’t need to be the most fashionable people in the room, but dudes are out here shining and this presents a problem when vying for a job or even a partner.

So below you’ll find some of the essentials every man needs, which can be mixed and matched for multiple looks. There are many male fashion rules, you don’t have to know them all, you just need to know enough not leave the house wearing more than three colours or white socks with your suit.

Single breasted suit – grey or black

Good jeans – for a versatile professional look, go for the darkest blue you can find, with no distressing. To funk up your wardrobe go for a distressed stonewashed pair which goes with anything.

An outdoor jacket – it’s the easiest way to dress down an outfit. Plus, stylishly rugged never ever gets old.

Cords – great alternative to jeans and lend a softer look to your colour palette.

Trench coat or peacoat – they don’t date, ever!

Tracksuits – only for the gym or relaxing though, not to be worn in the club, even if you are from Khomasdal. (Retro track suits can work, though purely due to the nostalgia factor).

Blazer – a jacket with unstructured shoulders for maximum versatility. Something in a solid colour, not too bright. Stick to brown, blue or even red, if you’re that way inclined.

Chinos – a classic pair can be worn anywhere.

Brown shoes – yes, brogues are timeless and very fashionable, but done wrong you risk looking like a washed up clown who now sells insurance.

Black shoes – go for narrow, polished leather. Laces too, leave the buckles in the 1800s.

Sneakers – they go with anything, are comfy, show off your personality and add some street cred to your outfits.

A brown/black belt – brown leather is always versatile, but you need a classy black one to pull those formal looks together. Also, leave the big, embellished buckles for your adolescent nephew, that should keep him celibate and focused, though not by choice.

Simple t-shirts – in plain solid colours, V-neck is in right now and nothing with tap out scrawled across it. Ever.

A holdall – every man needs that trusty sidekick, a man bag. Whether it’s a backpack, fanny pack or an attache, a good bag would transition well into all facets of life, not to mention how much your MacGyver factor goes up.

Formal shirts – lends sophistication to your wardrobe and can be dressed up, down and around. And please, no funny print on your collar or cuff. Please!
