Medipark continues to reach out

IN THE hope of reaching out to the most marginalised communities, Ongwediva Medipark opened its Outapi consulting rooms on Saturday.

There will be a full-time general practitioner, while specialists will visit on different days.

Medipark has had a memorandum of agreement with the health ministry through the Oshakati State Hospital since 2015 to collaborate in various specialised medical care needs.

The hospital’s managing director, Dr Tshali Iithete, said, depending on the urgency of a patient’s condition, they may be referred to Ongwediva, or they may be attended to at the Outapi State Hospital.Iithete said the Outapi hospital coordinates the patients to be seen by specialists from Medipark.

The specialists include obstetricians and gynaecologists, paediatricians, and general surgeons.

“Other specialists will follow. We are determined to make these consultations very meaningful to the people of these regions.

Health development is when services come where people are, and not when people travel vast distances to look for services. Today, we are witnessing this development,” he stated.

Iithete said Outapi is the ideal location because it is strategically located in the heart of the most populous region, and a border region to neighbouring Angola.

Omusati governor Erginus Endjala commended Medipark for the initiative and drive to reach out to communities.

He said the public-private partnership model has a positive impact on the social and economic fabric of Namibia through employment creation, revenue generation and skills transfer.

“Medipark has demonstrated all those above. It is the first hospital to have an agreement with the government, where specialists rotate at the Oshakati hospital regularly. This is commendable,” Endjala added.

Medipark has a total of 48 specialists in various fields. The institution also trains doctors, nurses, pharmacists and radiographers. – tuyeimo@namibian.com.na
