MEATCO Okahandja received a low number of cattle for slaughter in January, and will thus only open in March.
Meatco’s acting senior manager for corporate communications and public relations, Uschi Ramakhutla, said all staff members of the Meatco Okahandja abattoir who were supposed to report for duty yesterday, now only have to start on March 7. Slaughtering will start on March 15.Ramakhutla said the few cattle that are currently there for slaughtering will be transported to Meatco in Windhoek.The Okahandja Meatco abattoir will in the meantime be tested for communicable diseases, training of staff members and treatment of the premises before operations start. – Nampa
