Hardap governor Riaan McNab has visited the family of the late Ndapewashali Kanime (23), who was murdered, reportedly by her boyfriend at Mariental last Thursday.
It is alleged that Kanime was in a two-year relationship with her boyfriend (29) when the incident occurred at Takarania location.
During his visit, McNab said Kanime’s life was taken in a cruel and senseless act, adding: “No words can fully ease the pain the family is experiencing. As a region, we are heartbroken and angered. I came here not only as a governor, but as a father and a fellow human being who stands in solidarity with this family.”
According to the head of the crime investigations division in the Hardap region, deputy commissioner John Mwatongwe, yesterday, the incident took place between 20h00 and 22h00 on 19 June.
Mwatongwe said the deceased’s boyfriend, who is now the suspect in the crime, called the Namibian Police Mariental charge office to report that he had found his girlfriend dead after returning from a drinking spree.
The charge office sent a team to the crime scene. “She was declared dead on the scene by the medical team,” he said.
Her body was transported to the Mariental State Hospital for certification of death and sent to the mortuary.
Governor McNab further assured the family that his office remains available to assist them in any way possible, saying the family will not face the pain alone.
