A man (74) was allegedly trampled to death by an elephant at Nduno Village in the Kavango West region during the early hours on Tuesday morning.
According to police regional commander Julia Sakuwa-Neo, the incident occurred at around 04h00 when the deceased, Thomas Kandandu, and his wife were walking to their crop field.
The deceased reportedly went into the bush while his wife continued to the field.
“It is alleged that the deceased encountered an elephant in the bush, which chased him and trampled him several times, resulting in his death,” Sakuwa-Neo says.
When the deceased failed to arrive at the field after a long time, his wife sought assistance from villagers.
Sakuwa-Neo said a search was conducted, and the deceased’s body was later discovered.
“The body was found with elephant tracks visible next to it, which supports the allegation that the victim was killed by an elephant,” the commander adds.
Police have confirmed that Kandandu’s next of kin has been informed.
