A 50-year-old man was granted bail of N$4 000 after he was arrested for illegal possession of raw lion skin, teeth and oil in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
The suspect, Erastus Tovoha, was arrested on Monday at the Liselo checkpoint after officers found the lion products in his bag during a routine search with the K-9 sniffer dog.
Upon interrogation, Tovoha could not provide a permit and told the police he found a carcass at Lake Lyambezi and decided to take some parts.
His case was postponed to 30 July for further investigations and to allow him to get legal representation.
Magistrate Beatrice Sibalatani ordered him to remain in custody pending bail payment.
