Man drowns while swimming at Independence Beach

A man (32), identified as Alfeus Saltiel, drowned while swimming in the sea at Independence Beach at Walvis Bay on Saturday.

According to police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi, Saltiel’s friends tried to rescue him immediately, and paramedics were summoned to the scene.

Saltiel was then transported to the Walvis Bay State Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.

His next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.
In a separate incident, it is alleged that the body of a 25-year-old man, identified as Shapwa Penelaka, was found lying on the ground in the bushes at Efinde village in Oshikunde on Saturday.

“It is alleged that the deceased was bleeding from a wound in his chest, and a shotgun was found tied to a tree next to him.
“His next of kin have been informed and police investigations continue.”
