Man arrested over wife’s murder in Zambezi

A man (30) was arrested on Saturday in connection with the murder of his wife (29) in the Zambezi region on the same day.

The police are investigating a case of domestic violence.

The deceased has been identified as Rebecca Kubonisa.

The incident took place at Mwemba village in the Mafuta area of Katima Mulilo at around 01h00.

The police say the man allegedly assaulted his wife with an unknown object.

Both Kubonisa and her husband are Zambian nationals.

“The deceased was found dead inside the house,” the police’s report states.

Her body was transported to the Katima Mulilo state mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Witnesses say revealed Kubonisa had found the suspect in the company of a young girl.

“It’s alleged that the deceased confronted the husband about the female companion. As a result, she was beaten by the husband (suspect). People heard her screaming. The deceased and her husband then walked to their house to sleep,” the report states.

The man reportedly called his employer at around 05h00 on Saturday after noticing his wife was not breathing.

The employer alerted the police, who subsequently arrested the suspect.

He is currently being detained at the Katima Mulilo Police Station and is expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Kubonisa’s next of kin have been informed of her death, and investigations into the matter continue.
