A man accused of murdering Walvis Bay resident Barbara Geschke (80) is being held in custody after making his first appearance in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court.
Daniel Makie (44) appeared before the court on Friday – two days after his arrest. The matter was postponed to 29 October while for police investigations to continue.
Geschke’s body was found at her home on 16 June after a neighbour became concerned and went to investigate.
Erongo police spokesperson senior inspector Judith Shomongula says investigations led to Makie’s arrest at Kuisebmond on 24 June.
“He is a resident of Walvis Bay and was apprehended at Kuisebmond and positively linked to the crime. The stolen items were also recovered,” she says.
The police have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between the Makie and Geschke or the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Makie was formally charged and brought before the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on Friday, where he was denied bail.
Shomongula says the court postponed the matter to allow investigators to complete their work.
“The accused person appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court yesterday, and the case was postponed to 29 October without bail granted. Police investigation is still ongoing,” she says.
The police have not revealed what items were allegedly stolen from the Geschke’s house, but have confirmed they were recovered following Makie’s arrest.
