When the mining and construction sectors demand prescribed safety specs for any vehicle operating on their sites, Mahindra ticks all the boxes.
The 2.2L turbo diesel engine proved again that the vehicle is well-priced, fuel efficient and has all the bells and whistles expected of a vehicle designed to serve a multipurpose role.
Kobus Fourie, sales executive at M+Z Motors Swakopmund, says the mining specs are just a drop in the ocean as Mahindra caters to a variety of needs: mining, vehicles for game viewers, ambulances and even as commercial vehicles for small and medium enterprises.
The version of the vehicle converted for mines is available in both double and single cab, Fourie adds. In addition, both vehicles are available in either 2×4 or 4×4, with high and low range.
Apart from the mine specifications – like fitted roof lights, reflector stripes, the flag and extension pole, fire extinguisher, roll bars and reverse hooter with camera – the extra lights required by the mining industry come with separate toggle switches to be used when required while entering a mine or quarry.
The list does not end there, he says. Additional specification or equipment can be provided on request, including a first aid kit, safety nets to secure any load at the back, holding blocks for tyre exchanges, two emergency triangles and full canvas seat covers.
Uniquely, this vehicle is fitted with a six-speed manual gearbox. It is ideal for off-road driving and gravel roads with 210mm ground clearance and has a braked towing capacity of 2 500kg and an unbraked capacity of 750kg.
Despite all the practicalities, you can still expect some luxuries: adjustable seats, air conditioning and electric windows that open and close remotely.
Safety isn’t lacking; the vehicle comes standard with airbags, an anti-locking brake system, electronic brake distribution, an electronic stability program and hill hold/hill descent control.
The game viewers in particular are a winning recipe; the vehicle comes standard with a foldable canvas canopy, additional power outlets for appliances like a camping fridge and 12 volt charging points for comfort and convenience.
In the words of Mahindra’s own slogan, these vehicles are “always up for a challenge”. For added peace of mind, Mahindra is backed by M+Z Motors. With branches across Namibia, any client can rest assured they are in good hands.
