Magistrates resumed work on Friday last week, following a more than three-week-long go-slow strike in demand of an increase in housing and vehicle allowances.
This was confirmed by lawyer Florian Beukes, representing the Magistrates’ and Judges’ Association of Namibia, on Monday.
“I can confirm that the magistrates returned to work on Friday already,” Beukes said.
Negotiations, however, have not been concluded yet, but the association continues to engage minister of justice and labour relations Wise Immanuel.
The return of magistrates to work comes just after the conclusion of the regional council and local authority elections, with the swearing-in of councillors now expected to take place soon.
The set date of swearing in councillors was on Wednesday this week, but it was cancelled by the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development in a statement issued last week.
No reason was given for the cancellation, but a new date is set to be announced in due course.
