Khorixas is set for a lively Saturday as ma/gaisa royalty takes centre stage at the Ore-Aob Music //Khoab Donkey Meat Festival, with organisers promising the biggest edition yet.
With close to 20 artists lined up, Herbert Conradie Stadium is set for a music showdown that Khorixas has never seen before.
The night will feature a clash of generations, with old-school favourites Raphael and Pele taking on new-school stars T-Bozz and Staika.
Expect fireworks when these duos take the stage.
Don’t forget the artist known as Die Ander Donkie, someone who has a very strong stage personality.
Also set to offer the thrills is a veteran singer and a superstar in his own right, Ou Stakes Hamaseb, who is considered the biggest individual player in the ma /gaisa genre.
Dixon, who possesses a velvet voice, is undoubtedly another standout artist in the genre.
Not to forget the youthful Kaptein Tswazi, who has become one of the most sought-after artists on the Namibian entertainment scene.
There will be a surprise performance from local favourite Ice Star, who will make a comeback after an extended period.
Antivorenasie will also represent the host town, with other crowd favourites including Slow, Lollipop, Mentos, #Nu Damab and Michael Owos-oab.
The undisputed ma/gaisa queen, Lettie Nangolo, goes head-to-head with challenger Oc Bulan. New kid on the block Zetta is coming for the crown, too. No one’s playing it safe.
Young and talented singer Yolandi also has the potential to steal the show from her established fellow stars.
“Khorixas must gear up for top-class entertainment,” show MC DJ Webzito says.
“The organisers pulled out all the stops to bring the hottest acts to your town.”
Before the music, the heat turns up in the kitchen. The day kicks off with the Donkey Meat Cooking Competition, where the best cook takes bragging rights.
“Khorixas is the official capital of the Damara people, renowned for their love of donkey meat,” Webzito says.
Politicians, councillors and business leaders from across the region have already confirmed their attendance.
Event host Gerson Ore-Aob has announced that the World Wildlife Fund has also come on board, while the conservations around Khorixas have also pledged their support to the event. A march will be led by the members of the Welwitschia Horokhoes at 08h00, which starts from the Telecom office to the stadium.
The gates will open at 07h00, with the cooking competition kicking off at 09h00.

The children are not left out of the fun, with a Children’s Corner offering activities such as adventure games, face painting, a jumping castle and music.
Popcorn and other snacks will also be on sale.
The children will pay a cool N$20 at the entrance.
