LPM threatens to expel suspended members Isaacks, Rooinasie

The Landless People’s Movement has given suspended members Joseph Isaacks and Rashid Rooinasie four working days to explain their conduct or face expulsion from the party.

This follows a chaotic week for the party at Keetmanshoop, where tensions over the recall of mayor Melody Swartbooi led to a series of public meetings being disrupted.

In separate letters confirmed by LPM operative secretary Dawid Eigub, the party informs the two members that they had allegedly continued participating in party affairs despite being suspended.

“You are hereby required to submit written representations within four working days upon receipt of this notice, showing cause why further disciplinary action, including expulsion, should not be instituted against you,” both letters read.

The letters state that both Isaacks and Rooinasie are accused of taking part in party WhatsApp groups, attending meetings concerning party matters, and continuing to engage on issues relating to the party while under suspension.

The LPM says while under suspension, Isaacks convened and addressed a press conference on 29 April while wearing party regalia, and purportedly discussed matters relating to the party.

Isaacks was suspended on 24 April, while Rooinasie has been under suspension since 25 March.

The letters also instruct them to immediately cease any conduct that could be interpreted as representing or associating themselves with the party in an official capacity, including the use of party regalia, media engagements and participation in party-related forums.
