Khorixas in the Kunene region is set to host a speed dating event on Saturday, giving singles at the town an opportunity to find their match on Valentine’s Day.
Speaking to The Namibian, Clemans Miyanicwe, founder of Miyanicwe Events and Entertainment, the organisers of the event, says this is because “most single people usually spend Valentine’s Day alone.”
Explaining the setup of the speed dating activity, Miyanicwe says participants should expect a little water fun, as it will take place in a swimming pool.
“A group of single participants will be given a few minutes to get to know each other. When the whistle blows, participants will swim to the next person. Once one group has completed their session, another group will enter the swimming pool and the activity will continue,” he says.
Miyanicwe says attendees can expect a lot of fun activities, including performances from a few local artists.
“There will be performances by oviritje, Afro-pop and Damara punch artists, as well as Lanny Boy,” he says.
The event’s dress code is black, red or white.
In addition to the speed dating activity, there will be tables reserved for couples and singles, Miyanicwe says.
These tables will be set apart from the speed dating area for attendees who may not wish to participate in the activity.
While some may see speed dating as controversial, Miyanicwe says he believes the younger generation sees it differently because times have changed.
“Let us try something new. You might find your true love at the swimming pool,” he says.
Participants taking part in the speed dating session are encouraged to bring along their swimwear.
The event starts at 12h00 and will be held at the Welwitchia Guesthouse at Khorixas.
