Louw wins Tabor ETU Junior European Cup

NAMIBIAN triathlete Abraham Louw won the Tabor ETU Junior European Cup in a time of 57:09 in the Czech Republic on Saturday.

Louw was the first out of the water after he swam the 750 km in eight minutes and 50 seconds. In the bike category he finished the 20 km course, which was very technical and included a lot of hills, in 31 minutes and seven seconds.The 18-year-old then went on to finish the 5 km run in 15minutes and 20 seconds to win the race ahead of Russian Andrey Brukhankov who crossed the line at 57 minutes and 17 seconds. In third place was Vyecheslav Pimenov of Russia who finished the race in 57 minutes and 55 seconds.Louw, who was born at Otjiwarongo, was second in the Encternach ETU Junior European Cup race in Luxembourg on July 11. He finished the race with a time of 54:24 behind Andreas Schilling of Denmark who finished 15 seconds ahead.Last year he qualified for the Youth Olympic Games when he won the Pretoria ITU African Youth Olympic Games Qualifier in South Africa when he finished with a time of 57 minutes and 25 seconds. He finished ahead of Wian Sullwald of South Africa. The Junior European Cup is an annual series of triathlon races staged around Europe. Each leg of the series involves a standard distance triathlon race, which starts with an open-water swim (750 metres) followed by a bike ride (20 km) and then ends with a 5 km run.
