Lost Respect For Angula

Lost Respect For Angula

I AM aware that you hardly publish letters that do not suit your world view, however I hope you shall allow my views to be heard on the spat between Nahas Angula and Evilastus Kaaronda.

I notice that Lister does not like Mr Kaaronda that much judging from the coverage in the paper, and therefore preferred to make it seem like it is Angula that you like very much. I suppose that is your right to do so including publishing majority of SMSs critical of Kaaronda and in favour of Angula. On my part, I used to like Angula and supported his camp during the campaign of presidential candidate in 2004 Congress of Swapo. For me as an ordinary citizen, I believe that Kaaronda was right and Angula was wrong in losing the sanity and courtesy expected from a person in the position of Prime Minister.I have never before heard former prime ministers like Hage Geingob or Theo-Ben Gurirab calling others ‘running dogs’ in spite of criticisms against them.In my opinion, Angula has lost my respect forever, because he seems incapable of distinguishing between the position of Prime Minister and his political ego, possibly to secure a seat at the watershed Swapo congress. If it is true that Swapo is as Angula describes it, then how come the same Prime Minister was defending Nyamu or being sympathetic to Andreas Shipanga not to mention working so closely with people that hate Swapo? I am so disappointed in you, Right Honourable Prime Minister! Disappointed Supporter Via e-mail Note: You are entitled to your views, but The Namibian has certainly proved over the years to be one newspaper which is NOT averse to publishing criticisms about itself. If people who SMS their views are more critical of Kaaronda than Nahas, that’s outside our control. While we cannot publish all SMS messages, we nevertheless do not skew the balance of those we receive, and the majority have been more critical of Kaaronda. That having been said, we have the (only) two letters on that subject on these pages today which take the opposite position, so your conclusion was erroneous in the first place.Neither is it for us a question of ‘like’ or ‘dislike’.There are times we’ve praised the PM and times we’ve criticised him.Ditto Kaaronda. That’s what being independent is all about.Hope this helps you clarify your own bias – EdI suppose that is your right to do so including publishing majority of SMSs critical of Kaaronda and in favour of Angula.
