ONE of Namibia’s most prolific midfielders, Lolo Goraseb, will officially say goodbye to the game of football at a flamboyant testimonial match scheduled for the Sam Nujoma Stadium tomorrow.
At this stage, the organisers of the match have assembled some of the greatest players the African southern hemisphere has ever produced and they will be in action against a Namibian Legends side.Most of the visiting players were drawn from the neighbouring countries and will represent the Cosafa Legends team which will come up against the Namibians who were mostly drawn from the Class of ’98.The Class of 1998 consisted of players who heroically represented Namibia at the African Nations Cup in Burkina Faso and surprised many at the continental showpiece.Goraseb has dubbed his match as the ‘Lolo Goraseb Hope For Our Children Testimonial’ and is doing this primarily for the cause of many Namibian children who have no means of survival.ACTIVITIESLast night, Goraseb raised funds at a gala dinner where all the players were present.Today, there will be coaching clinics for 50 children from 09h00 to 12h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium by the Namibia Football Association, Unicef and Special Olympics Namibia.The legends will also pay a courtesy call on Minister of Sport Willem Konjore today.The Sam Nujoma Stadium is expected to be packed to capacity as early as 13h00 when Black Africa take on both African Stars and Orlando Pirates in exhibition matches.The Namibian under-20 women’s national side will play against their South African counterparts at 16h00, while the main match is set for 18h15.The Legends match will be completed by 20h00, followed by presentations and an after-party at the stadium.The tickets for the VIP area will cost N$150, while the open stand spectators will pay N$20. Children under the age of 10 will enter for free.The Namibian legends consist of Lolo Goraseb, Bimbo Tjihero, Tiger Goagoseb, Sandro de Gouveia, Congo Hindjou, Ricardo Mannetti, Mohamed Ouseb, Gerros Uri-khob, Eliphas Shivute, Frank Fredericks, Ronnie Kanalelo, Amos Shiyuka, Mabos Ortman, Orlando Haraseb, Rolf Beiter, Denzel Bruwer and Lucky Richter. Other players include Berlin Auchumeb, China Utoni, Dax Andjamba, Pule Boonstander, Cascas Angula, Page Ananias and media team hitman, Jossy Joss.Some of the Legends who have confirmed include South Africa’s Doctor Khumalo, Phil Masinga, Mark Williams and Thulaganyo Gaoshebelwe.Others are Peter Ndlovu from Zimbabwe, Botswana’s Mmoni Segopolo, Kalusha Bwalya of Zambia and Amy Pascal of DRC. Mozambique’s defender Mano Mano and a few more players from Lesotho, Swaziland and Malawi are also expected to come.
