NICOL Loftie-Eaton’s brilliant batting form at the APS Cricket Festival continued on Wednesday when he scored his third successive century for the Striking Eagles.
Playing in a T20 match against the Vicious Falcons, Loftie-Eaton hit 170 not out which included a massive 17 sixes and 11 fours as he helped his team to an eight-wicket victory.
The Falcons batted first, scoring 209 off their 20 overs with Jan Izak de Villiers scoring 82 off 34 balls and Willem Loubser not out on 64. Francois van der Westhuizen was the Eagles’ most successful bowler taking two wickets for 38 runs.
It was quite a big target to chase but with Loftie-Eaton in imperious form, the Eagles reached it with ease off only 13 overs and for the loss of two wickets. He totally dominated the batting, with the next highest score being 20 not out by Ettiene Beukes.
At the WAP field, the Thunderous Cheetahs beat the Volcanic Rhinos by 23 runs.
The Cheetahs scored 133 for eight wickets off their 20 overs. Lu-Hendro de Waal was their top scorer with 33 runs, while Gerhardus Greeff added 21. Andre van Niekerk was the Rhinos’ best bowler, taking two wickets for 12 runs.
The Rhinos were always behind the run rate and eventually scored 110 for eight wickets off their 20 overs.
JC Balt was their top scorer with 29 runs, Stephan Bezuidenhout, JW Visagie and Keith Mutandi each took two wickets for the Cheetahs.
At the CCD field the Hurricane Wolves beat the Meteor Lions by six wickets.
The Lions batted first and scored 135 for two wickets off their 20 overs.
Andre Siepker top-scored with 49 off 59 balls, while William Lottering scored 43 off 50 balls.
The Wolves scored 138 for four wickets with Gerhard van Rensburg scoring 35 and Dirk Theunissen 34, while Renier Bosman took three wickets for eight runs for the Lions.
