Loftie-Eaton in smashing form

NICOL Loftie-Eaton’s brilliant batting form at the APS Cricket Festival continued on Tuesday when he scored a triple century for the Striking Eagles in their two-wicket victory against the Vicious Falcons.

Loftie-Eaton was in imperious form and hit the Falcons’ bowling attack out of the park. He smashed 20 sixes and 18 fours before he was eventually out for 318 off only 173 balls.

It was his second magnificent innings at the festival after he scored 183 off 123 balls against the Vicious Falcons on Monday.

Loftie-Eaton received good support from Ramon Wilmot (64) and Ettienne Beukes (59) as the Eagles amassed a mammoth total of 539 for eight wickets off 71 overs.

Jan Izak de Villiers was the Falcons’ best bowler with 4/80 off 14 overs.

Earlier the Falcons were all out for 196 runs, with Dian La Cock scoring 80 runs off 62 balls, while Jan Izak de Villiers scored 52 off 25 balls.

Ramon Wilmot was the Eagles’ best bowler, taking 5/57 off 14 overs.

At the WAP field the Volcanic Rhinos beat the Hurricane Wolves by 44 runs.

The Rhinos won the toss and elected to bat and scored 193 all out in their first innings.

JC Balt was their best batsman scoring 65 off 94 balls, while Marco Malan took 4/63 off 16 overs.

The Wolves replied with 164 all out with Marco Malan scoring 41 and GJ van Rensburg 39, while JC Balt took 3/45 and Markus Haihambo 3/20.

In their second innings the Rhinos declared at 53/3, while the Wolves scored 38/3, leaving the Rhinos as the winners by 44 runs.

At the Wanderers field the match between the Meteor Lions and the Thunderous Cheetahs ended in a draw.

The Cheetahs were all out for 162 in their first innings, with Stephan Bezuidenhout scoring 66 not out and Divan La Cock 62.

Renier Bosman took four wickets for 8 runs and Andre Siepker 3/17.

The Lions scored 213 in their first innings, with Renier Bosman scoring 55 and Allistair Gurirab 43, while Divan La Cock took 4/9 off 6 overs.

In their second innings the Cheetahs reached 55 for four wickets when the match was called off for a draw.

The tournament continues at the Wanderers, WAP and CCD fields on Thursday.
