We have received a spate of letters from Polytech students, some of which we publish today. However, we urge these students to use dictionaries, take time and effort to formulate their views, and to read their published/edited comments so that they are able to improve their writing skills because the quality of the letters sent was very poor.- Ed
Grants To Poor I AM a student at Polytechnic of Namibia.I am not very happy about our Government especially the Ministry of Higher Education, for the way they distribute their grants\loans.I think they need to consider more to students who are unable to pay their fees. Why do they not give more loans\grants to students? They should stop discriminating because is very unfair to give a loan to the person who has DSTV in their home instead of giving it to a person who stays in Babylon, the rural settlement in Windhoek. When are we going to consider the poor people?Salmon Kambunga***Crime Is Not GoodI WOULD like to talk about crime in our country.People are committing crimes because of poverty. These people should be punished for doing evil things especially young people.I strongly oppose all those who are doing bad things.Let us fight crime in our country and create peace in our societyKahare Lukas***Not Enough BursariesI WOULD like to express my disappointment to the Namibian government and businesses for not offering bursaries to many Namibian students. Many Namibian students who passed grade 12 with high points are now stranded with what to do because they don’t have money to go for further studies.I strongly believe that these people have being applying for bursaries and they have been rejected, and they are now wandering the streets with no hope for a better future. For those who managed to get into Polytech and Unam, many are dropping out because they didn’t settle their accounts due to lack of money. It could be a very big investment if the Namibian government and the businesses could give bursaries to many students so that they can study and bring more development to our nation.Calvin Kasokonya***What’s In A Name? ALLOW me to space to talk about an issue which I think destroys national unity and needs to be cleared. It’s 14 years after independence, which means 14 years of reconciliation and unity, but there are still a majority of Namibians referring to northern regions as Ovamboland. This needs to be addressed and eradicated by our leaders with power invested in them through electing them to lead us in peace and unity. Thanks to all the leaders for pondering my request.D Kamba***Low Voter TurnoutI WOULD like to express my disappointment about voter turnout. I understand that many people registered for the elections, but I am concerned they did not turn out to vote. They only vote when they are criticising the government when they have problems, but by then the election is over.As a result they will say that the existing leader is not good and fair.So I think that all the registered voters should take part in the elections to avoid misunderstanding as well as to ensure the right leader(s) are recognised through majority rule.I would like to make it clear that people who have registered and did not turn out for the election without a valid reason should not blame the government because the fact they did not vote means they don’t have problems.Mundjulu Matias***Bursaries For ScienceNAMIBIA is short of scientists. Most scientists here are just foreigners from different parts of the world. This is mainly because Namibian people are short of income to further their studies. In fact, I personally think that is to those who want to study for science that the bursaries should be granted.Scientists are of advantage to technology today.Without them the discovery of new things is rare. Some people are well talented, but the problem is financial. The government and companies should do something to help these people to further their studies so that they can give something in return.N Abiatar***Crime In KatuturaLET me express my views about the police of Windhoek in your newspaper.I have seen that the police are not doing their jobs, because we still have lots of crime taking place in Windhoek. The police patrol in the centre of town, but when it comes at the other areas of Windhoek, especially Katutura, they don’t patrol there.Crimes take place in Katutura because there are no police available to protect the people.I want to know why the police patrol only in the central town while people are suffering from crime in Katutura?Veikko ShalimbaI AM a student at Polytechnic of Namibia.I am not very happy about our Government especially the Ministry of Higher Education, for the way they distribute their grants\loans.I think they need to consider more to students who are unable to pay their fees. Why do they not give more loans\grants to students?
