MANAGERS at Alexander Forbes Financial Services decided to donate N$4 500 to Clinic Clowns Namibia instead of receiving their usual gifts on Bosses’ Day on September 16.
Doris Meyer started Clinic Clowns last year and she and her crew of five clowns brighten up the day of patients in all five hospitals in Windhoek. “I watched the movie ‘Patch Addams’ and was so taken aback that I decided to do something similar here in Namibia because, as we all well know, laughter is the best medicine,” Meyer says. She points out that Clinic Clowns or Care Clowns are nothing like circus clowns. They do wear red noses and big shoes, but very little makeup – many children are scared of traditional clowns and they need to see that there is a real person in front of them. The clowns draw the nurses, parents and doctors into the act to make sure that everybody can forget their troubles for a while.Meyer says there is a huge need for more Clinic Clowns and interested people should contact her at 081 124 0063.With the money donated by Alexander Forbes Financial Services, red heart-shaped stress balls will be bought. The clowns will use these as props while entertaining sick children, and they will also be given as gifts to adult patients.”I watched the movie ‘Patch Addams’ and was so taken aback that I decided to do something similar here in Namibia because, as we all well know, laughter is the best medicine,” Meyer says. The clowns will use these as props while entertaining sick children, and they will also be given as gifts to adult patients.
