Seasoned talent agent, entrepreneur, make-up artist and wardrobe manager Kulan Ganes recently shared a post on social media reflecting on her professional relationship with ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ actor, Will Smith, when he was in Namibia earlier this year.
The ‘Men in Black’ star was in the Land of the Brave shooting a new TV series titled ‘Welcome to Earth’ for the acclaimed Disney Studios. The show is a six-part docuseries produced by National Geographic, that leads Smith on an adventure to some of the Earth’s lesser-known and inhabited spots, revealing secrets and hidden wonders.
According to Ganes, she was in charge of putting Smith’s wardrobe together, which included giving him his gloves and protective gear.
“I made sure his attire was always clean and dry depending on what he was shooting that day,” she said.
She says working with the ‘I am Legend’ megastar was an absolute pleasure and that every time they spoke he was very courteous.
“He is professional and funny. A real storyteller. He told me that no matter how big you are as a celebrity, being humble and hardworking is key. It is a career after all,” she says.
Like many, Ganes grew up watching ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’, so working with Smith was beyond a dream come true.
“I never in a million years thought I’d meet him. Despite meeting other celebrities on other international sets. Working with
Will is definitely a huge win for me.”
Furthermore, she says that working on productions with big stars like Smith is like working with a well-oiled machine.
“The production house Nutopia and the fixers Namib Films worked so well together. They thought of everything. I was in awe. Safety concerns were paramount, especially in these Covid times. The crew was well looked after and the whole system just worked. It was enjoyable hard work,” she says.
