There is no stopping successful businesswoman and entrepreneur Sandra Mwiihangele – the brains behind the Kiyomisandz range.
After the success of the brand and making it onto the prestigious Forbes 30 under 30 list in 2017, Mwiihangele has recently expanded her brand by introducing SunDunes Nutrient Petroleum Jelly, which forms part of the SunDunes Body Care product range.
“The idea came about at the beginning of this year when we wanted to develop a range of products that directly reflected the essence of Namibia as a nation and we therefore decided to release the petroleum jellies first, as we believe these are staple products in every household across the country,” Mwiihangele said. Other products from the range are aqueous creams and foam baths.
Mwiihangele said the family-friendly, nutrient-rich petroleum jellies have skin benefits, as they are all infused with herbal extracts and natural oils. She believes using these products over a long period of time will help nourish, moisturise and soothe the skin.
“Our jellies are skin conditioning protectants which assist with moisturising chapped, dry or cracked skin. This product is family-friendly and easy to use. You simply apply a generous amount to your skin, whenever needed.”
The range consists of five variants – Bittersweet, Grassroots, Nam Sunset, Swakop Wave and Petrichor. Mwiihangele said currently they are hard at work to release smaller versions, which will be more convenient to carry around. These will be launched in December.
She believes there is a persistent need for more petroleum jellies worldwide.
“We saw a gap in the market. Shower gels are meant to cleanse, yet there are shower gels that have energising or relaxing properties. The same with body lotions. Even though they are meant to act as moisturisers, you will find lotions that tighten or soothe your skin. This has not been done with petroleum jellies.”
Kiyomisandz was formed in 2015. For those keen on venturing into the cosmetics industry, Mwiihangele advises that a passion for chemistry, science and solving problems is paramount. She adds that it is quite expensive to explore the industry.
“With focus and determination in terms of your vision, you will eventually succeed in growing a sustainable and profitable business,” she says.
