Khomas Nampol won the Southern Stream First Division title and qualified for next season’s Debmarine Namibia Premiership after a come-from-behind 3-2 victory against Blue Boys at the DTS field on Sunday.

The victory put them eight points clear of second-placed Namibia Correctional Services and with only one match remaining, they cannot be caught anymore.

Khomas Nampol just needed a point to make sure of winning the title after they thrashed Spoilers 6-2 on Saturday, and they got off to a quick start when Silvanus Kamulu gave them the lead within the minute of the kickoff.

Blue Boys were not going to give them the title on a platter and staged a fine comeback as Thomas Andreas equalised while Gideon Kamendu gave the visitors the lead on 36 minutes.

Khomas Nampol, however, were not done yet and Thomas Kuume

equalised midway through the second half before substitute Erich Tsam put the issue beyond doubt with the winning goal in the dying minutes of the game.

At the final whistle their fans spilled onto the field to join in the victory celebrations, while the champagne started to flow when captain Erasmus Ikeinge eceived the Southern Stream First Division trophy.

Their coach Fortune Eichab said it was a great feeling to finally win the title.

“It’s a wonderful feeling, it’s not easy and we planned this thing a long time ago. This team already started in 2014 and its something that we planned and now we have reached our goal so it’s a great feeling, and I’m very happy for this moment. We need to enjoy this moment because it only comes once in a while. Corona kept us away but now we are back and I want to thank all the people who have supported us,” he said, while he also had a special word of thanks for their supporters.

“It’s wonderful to have police officers supporting us, but we need to grow our supporting brand even more.”

Eichab, who previously coached Tura Magic in the Namibian Premiership said they wanted to finish their campaign on a high note.

“We cannot talk about the future now, we need to start planning now, but the good thing is that I have already coached in the Premier League so I know what is expected there. But for now we will focus on our last game against DTS Hopsol who are in great form at the moment. They are still without a loss in the second round, while they have kept eight clean sheets, so we need to prepare for them because we want to win our remaining game to close off on a high note.”

In other matches on Saturday, DTS Hopsol beat Blue Boys 2-0, Northern Stars beat Mariental Sports Club 2-1, Ramblers beat Try Again 1-0, NCS beat Western Spurs 1-0 and Dates Eleven beat Windhoek United 4-2.
