Keetmans fails to renew car licences

THE Keetmanshoop Municipality has been penalised for not renewing the registrations of 15 Council vehicles on time. The municipality’s public relations officer, Epsom Jossop, yesterday cited “administrative hiccups” as the reason for missing the renewal deadline.

But a municipal source claimed it had more to do with cash-flow problems. The registrations of the municipal fleet expired on October 31 and the licences were only renewed on Wednesday, the source said. The municipality’s Fleet Controller, Nicodemus Booysen, told The Namibian yesterday that municipal officials were still driving unlicensed vehicles.Booysen said the cheque payment made to Natis on Wednesday did not include the penalty fee for late renewal, thus the new licence discs were not issued. He said the municipality would pay the penalty by yesterday.According to Booysen, he alerted top management twice about the renewal.”I alerted them in the first week of October and then after the expiring of the 21-day grace period, but my problem was placed on the waiting list,” he said.”I was waiting for a response from the top management, because the facilitation of payments was outside my parameters.”Attempts to get comment from municipal CEO Jerry Shangadi proved unsuccessful.=The registrations of the municipal fleet expired on October 31 and the licences were only renewed on Wednesday, the source said. He said the municipality would pay the penalty by yesterday.According to Booysen, he alerted top management twice about the renewal.”I alerted them in the first week of October and then after the expiring of the 21-day grace period, but my problem was placed on the waiting list,” he said.”I was waiting for a response from the top management, because the facilitation of payments was outside my parameters.”Attempts to get comment from municipal CEO Jerry Shangadi proved unsuccessful.=
