A traditional healer from the Kavango East region who allegedly gave a traditional concoction to four women before two of them died this week is remaining in police custody after appearing in court on Friday.
A police spokesperson, inspector Raimbert Muronga, said on Friday that Mberema Hausiku (45) appeared in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court after he allegedly gave a concoction to four women in the process of cleansing them of evil spirits.
The police have reported that two of the four women have died after drinking Hausiku’s supposed medicine.
Muronga said Hausiku was denied bail in the public interest and due to the seriousness of his case.
He has been charged with counts of murder, attempted murder and contravening the Witchcraft Suppression Proclamation of 1933, Muronga said.
Hausiku’s case has been postponed to 25 August to give him time to apply for legal aid and for further investigations to be carried out.
