Kaura introduces DTA’s ‘A-team’

THE DTA party on Saturday marked its 32nd birthday with a rally in Freedom Square, Katutura, where party president, Katuutire Kaura, highlighted the past achievements and future objectives of what he called the ‘A-team’.

Kaura said Namibians would vote for the ‘A-team’ comprising himself, Johan de Waal, Phillemon Moongo and McHenry Venaani, based on their history of performance and their future objectives.Pensioners were among those targeted, with Kaura stating: ‘It is this team which will increase old-age pensions to N$1 200 per month.’Kaura also promised pensioners that his team would ensure that they are not forced to collect their pensions in the sun. He cited an incident on November 5, ‘where an elderly person fainted while standing in the sun to get her measly N$450 here in Windhoek’.’There are community halls in all our major towns and villages. Why are the elderly made to stand for hours in the sun?’Kaura accused the Swapo Party Government of having ‘no heart’ and ‘no compassion for our people’.To the younger generation, he promised to ‘provide bursaries to the children of parents who need it, but not to President Pohamba’s daughter and [the children of] his ministers’.Kaura also said that the ‘A-team’ ‘has fought and continues to fight NamWater.’He said if elected to power, the DTA would immediately abolish the parastatal and make the provision of water a responsibility of the Government.’Water is proverbially life, and cannot be run for profit-making and the paying of CEOs up to N$120 000 per month,’ he said. ‘That’s immoral!’He said it was ironic that many highly placed Government officials had run up huge municipal debts without their water being cut off, while ordinary citizens had their services suspended for outstanding amounts as low as N$500.Speaking on the past performance of the ‘A-team’, Kaura said: ‘It is this team that has advocated the establishment of the cardiac unit at Windhoek State Hospital. It is the A-team that has made it possible for San people to be buried in coffins and not in plastic bags. ‘It is the A-team which has advocated the gazetting of property in communal areas so that it can be used as collateral at banks. Billions of dollars are lying around in communal areas and are useless because the owners cannot get title deeds for those properties. It continues to be dead capital.’Kaura promised that the DTA would also fight crime and corruption – ‘jobs for pals that go to the friends of those who occupy influential positions in government’.- nangula@namibian.com.na
