Kaujeua tombstone unveiled

THE Otjozondjupa Regional Governor Samuel Nuuyoma unveiled the tombstone on the grave of liberation struggle icon and musician Jackson Kaujeua at Ovitoto in the Omatako Constituency on Monday.

Nuuyoma told Nampa in an interview on Tuesday that hundreds of Ovitoto residents gathered at the Kaujeua family cemetery to witness the unveiling of the tombstone.

Kaujeua died in May 2010 at the age of 57, and was buried at Ovitoto.

“The late Kaujeua was one of the war veterans who returned to Namibia from exile and witnessed Namibia becoming independent on 21 March 1990,” Nuuyoma said.

The governor said erecting a tombstone on Kaujeua’s grave was a symbol of love and indebtedness by Namibians for war veterans who were laid to rest in and outside the country.

He said the war veterans sacrificed their lives to liberate Namibia from the yoke of colonialism for the benefit of the new generation.

“We should always stand united and maintain the peace and stability brought to us by our heroes and heroines,” Nuuyoma said.

The Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs will erect hundreds of tombstones countrywide on the graves of identified war veterans at a cost of over N$4 million as from this year.

Nuuyoma said Kaujeua’s tombstone is one of many erected by the Veterans’ Affairs Ministry for fallen war veterans.

Kaujeua’s twins Jackson Jackson and Jack Jackson, several traditional leaders from the Omatako Constituency, family members and officials from the Otjozondjupa Regional Governor’s office attended the ceremony.
