Katjiuongua ditches CoD

VETERAN politician Moses Katjiuongua resigned from the Congress of Democrats yesterday.

Katjiuongua said he does not see a future for him in the CoD, nor does he see the CoD as a viable and credible political alternative in Namibian politics.’Originally, I or we, had the impression that the CoD was a fresh, essentially youthful and, above all, non-ethnic, non-racial organisation based on the concept of ‘a new beginning’ and a collective effort – teamwork – to enable it to become an effective force,’ he wrote in a letter to CoD leader Ben Ulenga.He said they were wrong.’A ‘civil war’ prevailed most of the time in the organisation and the ethnic factor was slowly but surely creeping in, showing its ugly face in the organisation of meetings and conferences and their composition,’ he said.Katjiuongua said autocracy in the leadership style was being imported into the party.’Moreover, you did not keep your promises to us as to how we will be accommodated before and during the congress in 2004. Enough is enough. Therefore, not to waste my time and energy and entertain hope where there is virtually no hope, though there is no law against hope, I hereby tender my resignation from the CoD,’ he said.Katjiuongua claimed that he had enough of allegations by a ‘running dog’ of Ulenga who claimed he and Nora Schimming-Chase have been changing political parties ‘left and right’.’That’s a blooming lie. I have never deserted or defected from my political origins – Swanu. The CoD is the first party from which I am resigning,’ he said.Katjiuongua urged Ulenga to ‘keep your puppies under control’.’The truth is: I was invited, urged and even hired by you to join the CoD. I did not apply to join the CoD. Period,’ he claimed.He did not say which party he will join next.
