Kasuto wins fight in spectacular style

NAMIBIAN welterweight boxer Mejandjae Kasuto won his first fight at the Commonwealth Games in spectacular style on Wednesday when he knocked out his South African opponent Siphiwe Lusizi in the third round.

The knockout came just in time as Kasuto was behind on points and in danger of losing the fight.According to the official scorecard, the boxers were level at one-all at the end of the first round, but Lusizi streaked into the lead after winning the second round 6-3.The boxers were level at 1-1 in the third round when Kasuto caught Lusizi with a crunching hook that dropped him to the canvas, after 48 seconds of the round.Kasuto’s victory was the first for a Namibian boxer at the Commonwealth Games, after Mikka Shonena lost his lightweight fight against Mark O’ Hara of Northern Ireland on Tuesday.Namibia’s archers, Dirk Bockmuhl, Johannes Grobler and Ben van Wyk won one match and lost another in the Compound Men’s Team competition on Wednesday.They beat Wales 226-221 but lost to South Africa 234-228.In bowls, Namibia struggled, recording just one win in four matches.Namibia’s Women’s Pairs team of Diana Viljoen and Theuna Grobler beat the Cook Islands 2-0 (12-8, 18-0), but then lost 2-0 to Australia.Namibia’s Men’s Pairs team of Willie Esterhuizen senior and Jean Viljoen lost to Samoa on a tiebreak. Samoa won the first set 12-4, but Namibia came back to win the second set 6-5 to force the match into a tiebreak. Here, Samoa, however dominated to win the tiebreak 4-0.Namibia’s Men’s Trips team of Graham Snyman, Steven Peake and Will Esterhuizen junior lost in straight sets to Wales, going down 12-6, 16-1.Namibian gymnast Robert Honiball came 22nd overall out of 24 gymnasts in the Individual All Around Men’s final. Honiball finished with a total score of 74 800, while his best apparatus were the Parallel Bars where he came 15th overall and the Horizontal Bar where he came 16th.- namibiasport.com.na
