MANY first fell in love with Karishma four years ago when she released ‘2016’. Fans of the young rapper will be happy to know that she is back with a new music video, ‘Look’, which was released online last Sunday.
Karishma said the video took five days to shoot and symbolises strength and perseverance.
The video, shot at a Checkers parking lot in Windhoek, was actually a second try for the 23-year-old.
“The first video was a disappointment for me,” said Karishma, who opted not to release it. She believes the director did things half way.
“The director never finished the video. I tried to contact him on numerous occasions but with no success. I later let it go and felt that nature was taking its course. Things always happen for a reason. In life you always lose some and gain some,” she said.
Recently, after performing the song, Karishma was approached by Putinwork Innovatives, a photography and videography company, who asked if they could help shoot the video.
She’s excited about the final product which she believes has turned her into a better and stronger artist.
“I love working with people who are professional and willing to push you to give your best.”
She knew from the age of four that she wanted to do music one day.
“When I was a little girl I used to think that music fell from the sky, but when I realised it’s actually people who make it, I just had to be a part of it. I am very introverted so it’s my best form to express myself.
“Music makes me more humble. It also changed me as a person. I am more patient and understanding now. Music is my life. People must know that the artist, Karishma, and the woman, have very different personalities,” she said.
Besides music Karishma is currently having the time of her life studying fashion at the College of the Arts (Cota) in Windhoek where she is in her final year.
She previously studied business management at the Polytechnic of Namibia – now known as Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust)
“I dropped out in my second year. Honestly, at that time I felt depressed doing the course. It was difficult for me because I am a creative person. After a gap year I decided to do fashion. It has always been my thing. I love dressing up. For my video ‘Oh Lord’ I did my own wardrobe and I am thrilled about it because I have received so many positive comments. I am looking forward to doing more styling in future.”
