FORMER Otjozondjupa regional council planning director Beatus Kasete has assumed the post as//Karas regional council chief regional officer (CRO) on a five-year employment contract.
The position had been vacant for almost a year.
The //Karas Regional Council endorsed the recommendation by the Public Service Commission (PSC) to appoint Kasete as the council’s new top administrator towards the end of last year.
He assumed duty on 2 January.
Kasete told yesterday that “it was too early to say” when asked what his focus would be as the new CRO.
“I first have to internalise issues to understand the agenda and dynamics to see what we can achieve. There is potential,” he added.
The new CRO pledged his commitment to the citizens of the region while saying he intends to work closely with the governor, regional council, corporate sector and the political leadership to implement council resolutions within the legal framework.
“For any technocrat to make a success you need to operate within the parameters of regulations and policies to avoid being accused of partiality,” he remarked.
Kasete noted that the core mandate of the regional council was to spearhead growth in the region, saying it was therefore imperative to ensure that procurement procedures are being followed to achieve the region’s socio-economic development objective.
“With the right people on board, and monitoring and evaluation systems in place, we can implement much-needed capital projects,” he said.
He expressed excitement about the prospects of development in the region.
“I am ready to hit the ground running, and I hope the team here will pull in the same direction to make//Karas the region of excellence,” he enthused.
However, Kasete in the same vein remarked: “we are not here to rejuvenate (sic) the wheel, but we need to know the system and improve or change if the need arises”.
