Kapofi appointed interim minister of mines

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has appointed defence minister Frans Kapofi as acting minister of industries, mines and energy.

This comes a day after the president fired Natangwe Ithete for the alleged renewal of oil block licences on Sunday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the president says this is to ensure continuity in leadership and the uninterrupted delivery of services following recent changes in the leadership.

“The appointment of Kapofi ensures continued leadership and coordination within a ministry that remains central to Namibia’s industrialisation, mining, and energy transformation agenda, while allowing for the orderly identification and appointment of a suitable candidate in due course,” reads the statement.

Kapofi is currently the minister of defence.
