The Onandjaba Village Council has sworn in its new chairperson following the resignation of Jesaya Hanghuwo as per the party directive issued last week.
Swapo councillor Erkki Kandajaba was elected and sworn in on Thursday as the new council chairperson.
He was nominated by Martha Emvula and seconded by Rachel Ashivudhi.
His election follows the resignation of Swapo member Jesaya Hanghuwo, following a directive from the party after its members defied the party’s previous directive, according to which the politburo had nominated Kandjaba as chairperson.
However, this was not done, and the Swapo councillors then elected Hanghuwo.
In his acceptance speech, Kandjaba called for peace within the council.
