Kamutuezu quits Athletics Namibia

ATHLETICS Namibia (AN) secretary general Elizabeth Kamutuezu has resigned from the position with immediate effect.

Kamutuezu this week said that she could not cope with her job as the administrative head of the athletics mother body. Her fulltime position as chief development officer in the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development was one of the reasons why she decided to quit. She said the job as secretary general was also very frustrating, as there was no administration structure.Although the SG is supposed to be an executive in the athletics structures, Kamutuezu said she was required to do most of the administrative work. She was confirmed in the position on April 23 at an executive committee meeting after acting in the position since February 15 when her predecessor, Theo Tjiueza, resigned, also due to work commitments. Her appointment was rather questionable as she was supposed to serve in an acting capacity until the end of April that year when the AN National Council was expected to appoint a fulltime secretary general. However, the official appointment at AN Council level never took place.Kamutuezu said the infighting amongst members was also disheartening and “at the end of the day you lose your credibility”.She added that it was also unnerving to work with no operational office and that she had spent a lot of her time and own resources for a long time.Kamutuezu said she was asked by the AN President Alpha Kangueehi to stay on for longer but “I had enough because I could not see my way forward”.Her studies and family commitments also contributed to her decision to resign, she said.Kangueehi was quite surprised that Kamutuezu informed the media of her resignation. He was aware that she wanted to resign but had requested her to stay on a little longer or until the next AN Council meeting set for the end of June, he said.Kangueehi said he would call an executive committee meeting as soon as possible to decide on what to do next.-NampaHer fulltime position as chief development officer in the Ministry of Regional and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development was one of the reasons why she decided to quit. He was aware that she wanted to resign but had requested her to stay on a little longer or until the next AN Council meeting set for the end of June, he said.Kangueehi said he would call an executive committee meeting as soon as possible to decide on what to do next.-Nampa
