Kaimbi strikes a winner

Kaimbi strikes a winner

THE Brave Warriors produced a fantastic 1-0 win over Malawi yesterday to propel them to the quarter-finals of the Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup in South Africa yesterday.

The trickery of Jomo Cosmos front man Lazarus Kaimbi did it for Namibia when he found the net in the 52nd minute. The pint-sized former Ramblers player also scooped the Man of the Match trophy for his prolific all-round display and the great goal that ensured Namibia progresses to the quarter-finals after a 1-all draw against Lesotho earlier in the week.Namibia will now face South Africa on Saturday in a match that can be relatively easy for the Namibians as the hosts will not have any of their regular players in the side.South Africa will field players who mostly graduated from the under 20 ranks and it will be their first match of the tournament. If Namibia beats the South Africans, they will meet either Angola or Madagascar, who are playing in the second quarter-final, also on Saturday. The third quarter-final match will be between Zimbabwe and Zambia on Sunday, while Botswana will entertain Mozambique in the fourth quarter-final, also on the same day.Team manager Tim Isaacs told The Namibian Sport from South Africa yesterday that striker, Costa Khaiseb, midfielders Brian Brendell and Paulus Shipanga will no longer be part of the tournament as all have picked up injuries.Defensive midfielder, Jamu Ngatjizeko, is also suffering from a groin injury, but is under close examination by the doctor and will hopefully play tomorrow, according to Isaacs. He said the team played strictly according to instructions and left little room for error in all the departments.Namibia got off to a flying start in their opening match edging out the Comoros Islands 3-0, before drawing against Lesotho.
