Justice and labour minister Wise Immanuel hosts staff for kapana lunch

The minister of justice and labour relations, Wise Immanuel, on Friday invited his ministry’s staff to a kapana lunch date following his year-opening ministerial address.

According to ministry spokesperson Jeremia Namalenga, the ‘Kapana Lunch Date’ at Single Quarters was not merely a social outing, but a deliberate leadership initiative.

“First, it reflects people-centred and servant leadership by creating a space where open conversations are enabled and barriers often created by structural positions and hierarchical ranks are removed,” Namalenga says.

He says the initiative strengthens trust, teamwork and collaboration – values essential for a ministry tasked with delivering justice and managing labour relations with integrity and empathy.

Namalenga says the act demonstrates practical support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and informal traders.

He says kapana vendors represent grassroots entrepreneurship and small businesses that create jobs, sustain families and contribute meaningfully to the local economy.

“By choosing a kapana lunch date, leadership sends a clear message that we support local enterprise not only from boardrooms and through policy statements, but through practical participation,” Namalenga says.

He described the initiative as a powerful morale-building tool.

“Beginning the year in a relaxed, friendly and socially engaging environment fosters unity and a shared sense of purpose. It signals appreciation for staff contributions and reinforces that the ministry values its people,” Namalenga says.

He says that when employees feel seen, respected and included, motivation increases, communication improves, and productivity follows.
