Junior national hockey player Simon Salamon needs assistance to raise the outstanding N$16 000 to make the national team scheduled to compete at the upcoming Zimbabwe Junior Test Series from 13 to 17 August in Harare.
Speaking to The Namibian Sport Salamon’s mother Julia Johanna says they have raised N$11 000, and that the Namibia Hockey Union (NHU) requires a total of N$27 000 for Salamon to make the trip next week.
“I plead with any good ‘Samaritan’ to please help me raise the funds needed for my son to make the journey to Harare, Zimbabwe.”
Johanna says her son is passionate about hockey, and that it will disappoint him if he fails to make the journey and be part of the national junior hockey team.
“He is committed and disciplined. He hopes to one day represent his country beyond the borders of Africa,” says Johanna.
A letter by the NHU authored in June, says the union is pleased to confirm that Simon Salamon has been officially selected to represent Namibia at the upcoming Zimbabwe Junior Test Series, taking place from 13–17 August 2026 in Harare.
It further says the selection of the national team followed a stringent, merit-based evaluation process, and reflects the player’s dedication, discipline, and consistent performance throughout the season.
“We are proud to have him represent our country at this important international development tournament,” says NHU.
“As this tour forms part of the NHU’s u13–u18 development pathway, it unfortunately does not receive government funding. The NHU is contributing N$100 000 per team toward the overall tour costs.”
“However, players are still required to contribute toward their individual travel, accommodation, meals, and tournament expenses,” says the hockey union.
It further adds: “Considering this, the Namibia Hockey Union hereby grants permission for him to seek personal sponsorship or financial support from individuals, families, businesses, or community organisations to assist with his tour costs or contribution for the team.”
The NHU says any contribution received will be allocated directly to the player’s account and will reduce his financial obligation for the tour.
“While we cannot offer formal branding or kit exposure for individual sponsors, we will ensure that all sponsors are acknowledged with appreciation in our team communications, social media updates, and post-tour thank-you messages.”
“Your support will be recognised as part of the collective effort that makes this development opportunity possible,” says the letter.
