Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) parliamentary leader Imms Nashinge has confirmed the withdrawal of Keetmanshoop municipal councillor Pieter Skeyer from the town council, citing alleged violations of party directives.
In a letter dated 17 July 2026, seen by The Namibian and addressed to Skeyer, the party informed him it has withdrawn him as a member of the Keetmanshoop Town Council with immediate effect.
The IPC letter further said the decision was taken because Skeyer had acted “contrary to, and in direct violation of, directives issued to him by the party”. The letter said it regards this as a serious breach of the trust placed in Skeyer as a representative.
Skeyer told The Namibian on Friday that he has “no comment for now”.
However, he expressed his gratitude for having served Keetmanshoop for six months.
“My decision during the elections was based on personal conviction on right and wrong,” he said.
The decision to withdraw Skeyer was made just a day before the Keetmanshoop Town Council elected Swapo councillor Emrico Blaauw as new mayor.
Blaauw received four votes for the position, followed by Kallan Goliath with three votes.
Skeyer said he will now focus on his job as school principal.
